Light Emitting Lace
Light-emitting lace is a textile lighting modular system comprising of woven optical fibre cloth and a bespoke selvedge edge linear illuminator. The research was funded by two Textile Future Forum Innovation fund awards, part of Scottish Funding Council initiative to accelerate collaboration between industry and academia to encourage industry-led step change and transformational innovation. The scope of the project was to provide MYB Textiles an opportunity for innovation through collaboration and to develop light-emitting lace products utilising optical fibre to allow strategic investment into new market routes. The research was conducted on site at the mill through design, prototyping and testing, building a knowledge base for the fundamental parameters for designing light emitting madras lace structures. There was previously no precedent for manufacturing smart textile products within a traditional textile manufacture infrastructure in Scotland.
